A Review of Future's "SAVE ME"

A Review of Future's "SAVE ME"

Atlanta legend Future looks to add to his 2019 discography with the release of his latest project titled, “SAVE ME.” This project is Future’s second release of 2019, following up the release of his album “Future Hndrxx Presents: The WIZRD” in January. The story of Future’s “SAVE ME” is the short track list that makes up the project. The project is only seven tracks long equating to a little more than 20 minutes of music with no features throughout. This short track list should work well for Future, an artist who consistently puts out quality music that can be diluted because of the amount of music that is put out. With the release of only seven tracks, Future seems to be finding ways to continue releasing music as he wants, without diluting the product overall. Let’s find out if this strategy works, without further ado, let’s get to the review.

Categories

The songs on this album divided into three lanes that are prevalent throughout the project

Soulful Future

Future sings his soul out throughout the song, providing a more R&B vibe with the music.

• “XanaX Damage” (1)

• “Shotgun” (1.5)

• “Love Thy Enemies” (1)

Super Future

Future provides a more Hip-Hop vibe on these songs with more inflections and changes in cadence over more attention-grabbing beats.

• “St. Lucia” (1)

• “Please Tell Me” (1)

• “Government Official” (1.5)

• “Extra” (1.5)

Must Listen Songs

The concept of Must Listen songs are the songs that would give the best overview of the album as a whole. Songs that stand out for reasons to be described in the pending descriptions of the songs.

“Shotgun”

The fourth track on Future’s “SAVE ME” starts off with a soft bassline through Future’s intro to the track. The high hats and more noticeable bassline come in during the hook when Future then starts singing his heart out. The production on this song by Seth Firkins and Detail is stellar, however, the story of this song is the vocal range put forth by Future, most notably on the hook.

“Government Official”

Track five on “SAVE ME” is a summertime banger produced by FXXXXY. The bass driven, heavy high-hat trap melody is the typical beat meant for Future to spazz on. Future does exactly that on this beat, effortlessly flowing with the high hats on the beat to create a song that deserves to be blasted over the loudest speakers in the summertime.

“Extra”

Track number six on Future’s “SAVE ME” is a slow bass driven beat produced by FXXXXY and G. Ry. The bass rifts play a backseat role to Future’s changes in his cadence and flow throughout the song. Overall, the song is a calming vibe throughout the verses until Future sings his heart out on the hook, making the listener feel the emotion in his voice.

Final Review

Future’s “SAVE ME” is a magnificent piece of art that reminds us of the range of talents that Future has in his toolbox. Future’s ability to sing his heart out on a song like “XanaX Damage” while still able to provide the bangers needed for the summer like “Government Official” once again proves why Future is a legend. The production throughout the project is amazing, carrying the same vibe from start to finish between the many producers involved in the beat making for this project. The seven-song track list proves to work well for Future, addressing my issue with his previous project, “Future Hndrxx Presents: The WIZRD.” The length of the project proved to be an issue which led to many of the songs on “Future Hndrxx Presents: The WIZRD” sounding the same to the listener. Here with “SAVE ME” Future avoids this issue, just dropping off a mix of vibes across seven tracks with no filler. This makes “SAVE ME” a great project, dropped just in time for the summertime.
