Coming off a breakthrough 2019, Megan Thee Stallion looks to continue dropping real hot girl shit with the release of her 2020, project titled “Suga.” While still an artist who is very much a work in progress, Meg’s potential to be the next superstar of Hip-Hop continues to have no ceiling. Hot Girl Meg looks to expand her repertoire with the release of this nine-song, 25-minute project with Kehlani and Gunna appearing as features throughout the project.

“B.I.T.C.H.”
Produced by Helluva beats, track five starts off with Meg singing “I’d rather keep it real with ya,” with a bit of an echo followed by the first notes of the beat with Meg saying “real hot girl shit.” This part of the song is important because it gives the song a superstar feel as if saying “this is what Meg can be.” The beat then uses Meg's vocals as the base for the hook under a relatively simple high hat and bass pattern, complemented with a flute that keeps the tempo of the lyrics Meg started the song singing throughout the verses. Meg delivers her usual outstanding bars, but the production and sampling of her own harmonizing are what sets this song apart.
“Crying in the Car”
The penultimate track on Meg Thee Stallion’s “Suga,” produced by Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo better known as the legendary producer group, The Neptunes. The beat starts with Pharrell’s signature four beats before the bass and complicated high hat pattern drops with a piano melody under it. Meg’s cadence on this song sets this song apart because it forces her to rap with a slower tempo, allowing the listener to hear every word of this powerful song about staying focused on her goals.
Final Review
With “Suga” Megan Thee Stallion once again shows flashes of what she could be once she becomes more polished. Compared to her previous project, “Fever,” Meg takes a softer approach, which had been needed for her to illustrate her ability to mix up her vibes while still delivering quality music. Songs like “Hit My Phone” featuring Kehlani and “B.I.T.C.H.” allow her to be the hot girl she is, without running the risk of sounding repetitive. Throughout “Suga,” Meg seems to be more careful choosing her flows, deciding what words should go where instead of just hopping on the beat and attacking. This shows her growing understanding of her talent as well as a desire to grow as an artist which is certainly to be applauded. I’d like to see a project that sounds a lot like “Fever” and “Suga” put together. I feel as though once Meg delivers a project with both those aggressive and soft vibes combined, her superstar status will be established. Overall, “Suga” is simply the next step in Meg’s growth to superstardom.
